At DesignRepublic, we are passionate about creating brand identities that tell authentic stories. One of our most inspiring projects has been the rebranding of Toumaka Coffee. An ambitious coffee brand from Cameroon.

A bold vision in a competitive market.

In early 2024, Mr. Isaïe, founder of Toumaka Coffee, reached out to us for a complete rebranding. His challenge was clear: on supermarket shelves in Cameroon, his capsules were competing directly with international leaders like Nespresso and Nescafé. Therefore to succeed, Toumaka needed more than just packaging. It needed a powerful, distinctive coffee brand identity that could stand out locally and grow globally.

A story rooted in authenticity.

Through our conversations, we uncovered what makes Toumaka truly unique: unlike global competitors, Mr. Isaïe owns and manages all of his coffee plantations. Each variety is cultivated in a different Cameroonian village, meaning every cup of coffee can be traced back to its exact origin.

This full control over the value chain ensures transparency, quality, and authenticity—values increasingly sought after in the specialty coffee industry.

The birth of Toumaka.

In the local language, the word “Toumaka” refers to the hills that surround the coffee plantations. It became the perfect name to symbolize the brand’s roots. Paired with the baseline “From Farmers to You”, the name expresses a direct and honest connection between the growers and the coffee drinker.

Our branding and design approach.

DesignRepublic created a comprehensive brand identity toolkit that captures the essence of Toumaka:

  • A logo and baseline highlighting the brand’s authenticity and premium positioning

  • A color palette inspired by nature, growth, and the richness of African coffee culture

  • An African-inspired pattern symbolizing the hills of Cameroon

  • Packaging design and applications adapted to local supermarkets and international trade fairs

A living identity embraced by the market.

What excites us most is how the Toumaka team has fully embraced the new identity. The branding now lives across every touchpoint:

  • Coffee packaging in supermarkets in Douala and Yaoundé

  • Trade fair stands and communication materials for international exhibitions

  • Team outfits and merchandising, reinforcing consistency and recognition

All of this was achieved within a reasonable budget and in record time, also proving that strong branding doesn’t have to be limited to big global players.

Today, Toumaka Coffee stands proudly on supermarket shelves and at international fairs, competing side by side with global coffee giants. For us at DesignRepublic, seeing Toumaka shine—rooted in African authenticity yet ready for global growth—is a source of pride and inspiration.
